Unfair Political System

India is a vast country consisting of 29 states and 7 union territories. It was very difficult to efficiently run the administration while being at the center. This gave birth to the regional politics. Mughal kings from different regions coordinated for the smooth and efficient functioning of their administration. The British also worked with these kingdoms and successfully conquered India for centuries.

At present, politics is classified as central and state politics. Central politics is confined to NDA and UPA while state politics have a large diversity. Now that we have discussed about the type and history of the Indian political arrangement, this is the right time to discuss some of the pros and cons of this system.

Pros:

  • The central and state government is responsible for different sets of work. For example - Army comes under central government whereas Police comes under state government,
  • One of the biggest pros of this constitution is that judiciary is placed at the top.
  • As the responsibilities of both governments are decided, it increases the performance of the country as a whole.
  • The central and state governments are independent of each other. This gives regional politics a sufficient power and hence it doesn't dilute with the central politics.

Cons:

  • There are disputes among the states that can be seen so often.
  • The separate elections for the Parliament and Legislative Assemblies poses a burden on Indian economy because a large sum of money is spent for successful conduction of elections.
Note: 2019 Lok Sabha election cost $8 billion, whereas US elections cost $5 billion on an average.

Another face of Politics:

The politics seem so straight from this side, but it is not so from the other. The power of the politicians attracts negative-minded people and they take every means, whether good or bad to take this power. Once they are in power, they want every department to function according to them. They want to make the most out of their powers in a given tenure whether justified or not. The highly energetic youth is not interested in politics because they are outsourced by powerful and rich people.
Note: Most of the politicians have one or  more criminal records.

The Government is creating opportunities in every field whether it be science or commerce. But have you ever thought why they don't create platforms for youth to enter into politics? This is because they fear losing their power in the future.

Another drawback is the non-requirement of educational qualifications in politics. Every post from IAS officer to peon have some requirements. Army men go through hard training because they need to protect our country, IAS officers are interviewed before recruitment because they need to execute various schemes. But why do politicians never interviewed or trained? Don't they need to perform skillful tasks such as making laws.

If you say that they have officers to guide and they just interact with the locals. Then why do they exercise so much power if they are guided by someone better. I will bind up by giving an example of private companies. The most qualified person is the CEO of the company and hence exercise many rights. The other employees work under him/her. Can you compare it with our political system ?
